TEAM ALEH – JERUSALEM MARATHON 2013
On Friday, March 1, 2013, ALEH participated in the annual Jerusalem Marathon for the first time in the organization’s history. ALEH saw the marathon as a golden opportunity to increase public awareness of the disabled and encouraging their integration within society. As such, ‘Team ALEH’ ran under the slogan “Each according to his own pace,” and did everything possible to include ALEH’s disabled residents in the marathon festivities.
More than 100 runners, including 10 IDF soldiers, proudly participated in the marathon as members of Team ALEH, standing out from the crowd in their stunning green running shirts. With the assistance of tens of dedicated ALEH volunteers, 20 ALEH residents “ran” a special short track during the marathon itself. Team ALEH was also joined by ALEH Negev Maj.-Gen. (Res) Doron Almog, MK Elazar Stern, and several players from the Beitar Jerusalem soccer team.
Without a doubt, ALEH’s eclectic crew was the most spirited group at this year’s marathon – an inspiration to all who met them. Team ALEH is proud to have done its part in pushing the boundaries of inclusion for the special needs community and looks forward to participating in next year’s marathon.
