Shalom Y’all from Greenville South Carolina, U.S.A.
I was a volunteer at both ALEH Jerusalem and ALEH Negev. What an amazing journey it was to work with the staff and care for the “babies” in Jerusalem and then transition to the village at ALEH Negev where I worked with House ‘Ofek’ and the wonderful male and female residents.
I have always loved Israel and wanted an unique experience when the opportunity came in 2018 for me to serve there. I had seen Major General Doron Almog on a TV show discussing why he and others founded ALEH Negev. His story touched my heart and I knew that was where I should go to serve.
ALEH’s motto ‘All People. No Limits’, really energized my commitment to serve those with special needs.
I was blessed to serve for a total of 6 months. The experience in both Jerusalem and the Negev was memorable.
‘All People. No Limits’
I was especially impressed with the medical and therapeutic equipment available to meet every need of any resident. I have told everyone how amazing it was to see an organization with such a heart and resources to truly serve these beautiful special children and adults.
The time also provided me an opportunity to meet wonderful people from around the world, Thailand, Japan, Mexico, Germany and Holland. I continue to be in touch and share memories with a small group through WhatsApp.
I remember fondly many of the staff and our friendships while serving with them.
While working with the residents in both facilities, I was especially drawn to individuals with Autism. I connected with the one autistic child in both locations that brought me such joy to interact with them on their level. I am now working with Autistic children and their families here in Greenville.
I am grateful for the time and experience with ALEH and continue to truly believe in the beauty of All People. No Limits.
