In honor of Father’s Day, celebrated around the world each year on the third Sunday in June, the Special Fathers Network hosted a heartfelt interview with ALEH Negev-Nahalat Eran founder, Major-Gen. (res.) Doron Almog, father of Eran, z”l, for whom ALEH Negev-Nahalat Eran is named.
In this, the 100th episode of the Special Fathers Network Dad to Dad Podcast, Doron Almog conveyed the emotional story of his life, speaking of his relationship with his own father; the tragic death of his brother, Eran, left to bleed to death on the battlefield after being injured in the Yom Kippur War; the birth of his son, Eran, named in memory of his fallen brother; his acceptance and internalization of his son’s disability; and, finally, how he utilized the lessons learned through the various periods of his life to found and establish ALEH Negev-Nahalat Eran for the benefit of people with disabilities of all backgrounds, religions and ethnicities.
The Special Fathers Network is a Dad-to-Dad mentoring program for fathers raising children with special needs. Through the program’s personalized matching process, new fathers, stepfathers or grandfathers of a child with special needs are connected with a mentor father who has experienced a similar situation.
