POLICEMEN AND HOSPITAL WORKERS CELEBRATE GOOD-DEED DAY WITH ALEH GEDERA’S CHILDREN
Some 80 policemen from the National Police Academy, and 30 staff members from Kaplan Hospital in Rehovot, came to celebrate Good-Deed Day with the residents of ALEH Moriah in Gedera. These special volunteers joined school and vocational-workshop staff in bringing the residents to the large central yard, and put on a fabulous, happy party, in which singer Eliran Tavori had everyone singing and dancing. Despite their limitations, residents participated in all the activities. The atmosphere was electric and the good spirit in the air wrapped everyone in a feeling of love.
For some of the participants, this was their first encounter with people with disabilities, and it was very moving for them. For the children, these were new friends, who would become ambassadors and speak out for people with disabilities.
One of the nurses who participated in the event had only seen ALEH’s residents in the emergency ward, when they needed urgent medical treatment. However, the day at ALEH Gedera showed her the whole picture, exposing her to their wonderful living conditions and the dedicated staff that cares for them. Other participants shared the experience on their Facebook pages and verbally, explaining how overwhelmed they were by the love they experienced at ALEH, and how they’d received so much more than they’d given. Tzippi Setter, volunteer coordinator at ALEH Moriah: “This is the beginning of a love story for us, a story that will continue into the future and develop into a meaningful relationship. The trainers and future trainee policemen will continue with significant volunteer activity at ALEH Gedera.”
All of the children and staff of ALEH Moriah thank the policemen and the staff of Kaplan Hospital for providing them with such a special day.
