Mitzvah Day-For-Charities Brings Joy to ALEH's Children!
Feb 14, 2007
Karen Levy of Cooper City, Florida is a student at Temple Beth EMET Synagogue. For this year’s Mitzvah Day-For-Charities, held on February 11th, Karen presented ALEH. Karen and a group of friends put together 300 amazing goodie bags for the disabled children of ALEH. The bags consisted of balls, stickers, play dough, and most importantly personal notes from Karen and her friends to the children of ALEH.
Karen became aware of ALEH through an article written about great women of today. The article focused on Didi Almog, the wife of Major Gen. (Res.) Doron Almog, Chairman of ALEH Negev, and mother of Eran Almog OB”M, a mentally disabled young man who lived at ALEH until his untimely passing earlier this year. The article discussed a mother’s perspective of the challenges faced by parents with disabled children. Karen was very moved by the story. She did research and found that ALEH is a special place and one that she wanted to help.
The children were delighted to receive the goodie bags and notes. Each note was read aloud and the children clapped and laughed with excitement as they discovered new friends in Cooper City, Florida.
Thank you, Karen and your friends, for the caring and love you showered on us. We’d be thrilled to have you visit ALEH whenever you come to Israel!
