In yet another Tzemed B’Salon meeting, Karin, a National Service volunteer and participant in ALEH’s ALI Program in Givat Washington, met with students from the Ashdod Arts and Science Academy for an up-close and straightforward talk about life with disabilities.

Karin spoke about her life with cognitive developmental disabilities, emphasizing the need for community understanding, acceptance and integration, after which she fielded questions and comments, providing an enlightening and significant experience for all participants.

“It was really excellent,” commented Liora, coordinator of the special get-together. “The girls totally enjoyed themselves. They asked sincere questions and listened to the answers. Karin was wonderful. She got a little emotional, but she went with the flow of the conversation and questions. I’m really happy that we had this important evening.”

ALEH Moriah’s unique ALI program, in conjunction with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Services, enables teenage girls from religious backgrounds to take part in the government sponsored “Mechina L’Chaim” (Preparing for Life) program in a way that supports their lifestyle and culture. Project participants live in apartments within the Givat Washington community, adapted and renovated to the girls’ special needs and supplied with all of the furnishing and accessories needed to create a warm, pleasant and comfortable atmosphere, enabling both individual and group development.
