Independence Day Torch-Lighting Ceremony Honors Major General Doron Almog
Aug 27, 2006
Chairman of ALEH Negev, Major General (Res.) Doron Almog was honored with the lighting of a torch at the central Independence Day Celebrations at Har Herzl. Prominent guests at the ceremony included Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, President Moshe Katzav, leading Israeli figures and foreign dignitaries.
During the ceremony, twelve torches are lit in representation of the twelve tribes of Israel. This year’s honorees were recognized for their contributions toward the development of the Negev and the Galilee.
General Almog has been at the forefront of building ALEH Negev, a pioneering rehabilitative village in the south of Israel that will serve as home for hundreds of disabled young adults. His efforts on behalf of this $42 million dollar project were publicly recognized at the torch-lighting ceremony.
Before accepting his torch, General Almog reiterated his and his wife’s commitment to ALEH Negev and passionately declared that his lighting is in honor of a society that is responsive to the needs of its weakest members, as well as in honor of the State of Israel.
