ICL International Volunteer Day: Working Hard at the Village

When was the last time you did something really nice for someone else?

As part of Israel Chemicals Ltd.’s global volunteer day, 2,200 company employees spread out over Israel for a day of intense volunteering. At the same time, a few hundred other company employees could be found volunteering throughout the world.

ALEH Negev-Nahalat Eran was one of the places that welcomed the ICL volunteers. The ambitious guests assisted in upgrading and cleaning the village’s agricultural center and petting zoo. For one particular volunteer whose daughter learns in the village school, the day was especially meaningful. The company day of volunteering enabled this employee to have her coworkers meet her daughter while she, on a personal level, was able to give back even a little to the place where her daughter spends the most of her day.

There are about 750 volunteers at ALEH Negev-Nahalat Eran, including soldiers, high school students, inmates, college students and golden-agers. Village volunteers take advantage of every opportunity to tell about the benefits of volunteering, about new life perspectives gained from the experience and about the exhilarating feeling of giving without any thought of receiving that adds so much to their lives.

Volunteering is one of the important factors that enables our society to become what it is – a small step on the way to repairing the world (tikkun olam).
