Grand Opening of ALEH Negev!
Jun 7, 2006
Supporters, friends and dignitaries from around the world gathered on June 5-6 to celebrate the Grand Opening of ALEH Negev.
Monday evening a dinner reception was held at Hangar 11, the stylish private club on the Tel Aviv harbour. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was the Distinguished Guest of Honor at the event, along with Major General (Res.) Doron Almog, Chairman of ALEH Negev and father of Eran, a resident of the new facility. The Three Tenors performed in concert.
The next day, June 6, a large tent was set up at the ALEH Negev site in Merchavim, with a delicious buffet arranged inside. Guest Speakers at the event included Major General (Res.) Doron Almog and Stanley Fischer, Governor of the Bank of Israel, and numerous government officials.
Representatives of Keren Sacta-Rashi, Keren Hayesod, the Safra Foundation and international JNF organizations, as well as Sheila Kurtzer, past President of ALEH Negev, were among the visitors from across the globe.
Perhaps the most important guests were the young adults currently living at ALEH Negev who attended the ceremony in their wheelchairs, along with their families and caregivers. These residents sat with the rest of the guests, surrounded by the love of the hundreds of people who came to celebrate with them, enjoying the food and company.
A moving tour of the ALEH Negev facilities included a visit to the beautiful and spotless rooms in the Residential Centers, the nearly-completed Paramedical Center and Hi-Dependency Hospital Wing and a display of the crafts produced in the Workshop Therapy Program.
