BNEI BRAK – "Year of Trips"
Feb 15, 2011
ALEH Bnei Brak is located in the heart of a busy, hot and humid city, far from grassy expanses and green areas in the heart of nature. Since it is doubly important for its residents to benefit from exposure to the beauty of nature and the outside world, ALEH Bnei Brak officially designated this year a “Year of Trips”. Leaving the facility for excursions, day trips and to enjoy new sites outside the residence facility took on new meaning – and became a targeted goal for residents and staff.
There are major logistical challenges inherent in these outings. Taking a wheelchair-bound severely disabled child who needs to be fed through a “Kangaroo” feeding tube to the beach, or for a picnic, or to the zoo, is no simple matter. Even the simplest of trips involve a huge amount of planning and effort, resources and special arrangements to make it a reality.
Watching the enjoyment of the children over the year and seeing them appreciate an outing just like other children made the effort worthwhile.
The children of ALEH Bnei Brak experienced a number of exciting trips over the year: a three-day vacation in Kibbutz Nir Etzion, two weekend retreats that strengthened the feeling of a “Family Shabbat,” a waterfront boat ride, a train ride in Haifa, a chair lift, snow plows in the Hermon, and various outings to the beach, restaurants and more.
Our belief in the children’s right and ability to absorb, enjoy and experience the pleasure of a trip is the moving force that drives us forward. And the shining eyes and smiles of the children prove us right – year after year!
