ALI Girls Visit the Knesset on Special Invitation
Girls from ALEH’s ALI program visited the Israeli Knesset upon special invitation by Uri Ariel, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Upon arriving at the Knesset in the morning, program participants were greeted by a guide and enjoyed a special tour of the premises, including explanations about the building’s special structure, the job of Knesset Members and the role of the Knesset towards the citizens of Israel.
The girls walked through the halls of the parliament, entered the Knesset plenum and listened to speeches by a number of MKs. The group was greeted by Knesset Chairman Yuli Edelstein’s parliamentary assistant, after which they met with Member of Knesset Betzalel Smotrich.
ALEH’s unique ALI program enables teenage girls with disabilities from religious backgrounds to participate n the government sponsored “Mechina L’Chaim” (Preparing for Life) program in a way that supports their lifestyle and culture, providing each participant with the tools and means with which they can move forward in life as they acquire skills and knowledge that will help them in the future.
The Knesset visit was planned by program participant Karen Katurza. After meeting Minister Uri Ariel at a conference for National Service volunteers, Karen contacted the Minister by email and received a reply inviting the girls to visit the Knesset.
Special thanks to the Israeli Knesset for the accessible tour, an important and significant cultural and educational event for ALI program participants.
