Professor Carolyn Unsworth and Dr. Naomi Ferziger, Melbourne, Australia
Dr. Naomi Ferziger, head of ALEH Bnei Brak’s Center for Research and Professional Development, was recently in Australia as the guest of Professor Carolyn Unsworth, Director of the Department of Occupational Therapy at La Trobe University in Melbourne. Naomi was invited to present a lecture based upon her doctoral research.
Her lecture, entitled “Visual Assessment and the Multiply Challenged Child: Assessment of Gaze and Neurobehavioral Responses Among Children Diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and Cerebral Visual Impairment,” was well-attended and well-received by an enthusiastic audience of occupational therapists and vision specialists.
While in Melbourne, Naomi also participated in Limmud Oz -Australia’s annual festival of Jewish learning and culture. Naomi presented a talk entitled: “In the Image of God: Disability in Jewish Tradition,” where she addressed biblical and rabbinical sources from which Jewish perspectives regarding physically and mentally challenged individuals can be gleaned.
Representing both ALEH Bnei Brak and Ono Academic College, Naomi’s visit to Melbourne offered her the opportunity for professional exchange with leaders in the field of pediatric occupational therapy. It also gave her a chance to share ALEH’s exceptional treatment methods and developments while highlighting the outstanding dedication and commitment to improving the quality of life of multiply challenged children.
