ALEH Negev-Nahalat Eran Gifted with Important Fitness Room Equipment
Reuven arrived at ALEH Negev-Nahalat Eran for rehabilitative therapy following a severe stroke. Walking a few steps independently was beyond his ability. At the village’s fitness room, Reuven began using the multitrainer machine to strengthen his arm and leg muscles. He began with the machine set to the lowest level of resistance and, gradually, as he progressed, the level of resistance was increased.
Today, Reuven can work the multi-trainer machine independently and, assisted by his son, can walk a few feet, which seemed impossible when he first came to exercise.
During 2019, the village’s fitness room underwent a significant equipment upgrade, with the help of the Hong Kong based Kadoorie Charitable Foundation and other donors. The room is part of the hydrotherapy complex, and provides rehabilitative exercise treatments for the village’s residents, outpatients, and special education students from the region. The room was established eight years ago with fundamental equipment, and the intervening period has enabled us to pinpoint the additional equipment necessary to address users’ needs and provide them with optimal rehabilitation. The Kadoorie Foundation, currently under the directorship of Peter Paul de Groote, responded positively to ALEH’s proposal for an equipment upgrade, and the donation has enabled us to significantly improve the treatments we offer.
Yaniv’s story is another ALEH miracle.
The 40-year-old father of four and owner of an aluminum factory suffered a stroke last year. After being hospitalized in central Israel for three months, far from his home in the southern moshav Sadeh Moshe, Yaniv was finally able to return to his family. ALEH Negev-Nahalat Eran’s rehabilitative center provided Yaniv with the opportunity to continue rehabilitation close to home.
After much effort, Yaniv can now walk on his own, without assistive devices. The fitness room’s advanced system treadmill, with its ability to adjust angles and range of movement according to individual requirements, provides Yaniv with the walking challenge needed to improve stability under varying conditions and reach his rehabilitative goals.
The new equipment in the fitness room is truly changing people’s lives. We are most grateful to the Kadoorie Charitable Foundation and others who assisted in purchasing the equipment, helping patients re-integrate into their lives and communities, and helping residents maximize their physical potential.
