The ALEH family deeply mourns the passing of our dear friend, Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks (Harav Ya’akov Tzvi Ben David Arieh) z”l, who returned to his Creator before his time.
A master theologian, erudite scholar, celebrated author and selfless leader, Rabbi Sacks was world-renowned for his gracious heart and brilliant mind. As a friend to people of all backgrounds and abilities, and a staunch advocate of disability care and inclusion, Rabbi Sacks connected deeply with our mission and championed the cause like a member of our family, providing sage counsel and unwavering support.
A rousing voice of reason who viewed the world through the lens of core Jewish values, Rabbi Sacks called for peace, brotherhood and humanity, highlighting the importance of caring for those who cannot care for themselves. In his own words:
“A nation is strong when it cares for the weak. It becomes rich when it cares for the poor. It becomes invulnerable when it cares for the vulnerable. That is what makes great nations.”
We extend our deepest condolences to Rabbi Sacks’s devoted wife, Elaine, their three children, Joshua, Dina and Gila, his siblings Brian, Alan and Elliot, and the entire extended family. Please know that we are thinking of you all at this difficult time.
