ALEH Makes Chanukah Traditions Accessible To All
Chanukah is for EVERYONE! That’s why ALEH’s dedicated special education professionals devised brilliant ways to adapt the holiday traditions to match the abilities of our residents with severe complex disabilities. Lighting a menorah and playing dreidel requires precise movements and highly developed fine-motor skills, but with ALEH’s adapted methods, the residents can light [electric] Chanukah candles with the flick of a switch and spin a dreidel with the push of a button. And residents with more advanced tactile abilities use safe, non-toxic glow sticks to light the menorah. Their faces absolutely LIGHT UP when they realize that they CAN join in on the festive fun!
