The day before Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year that was ushered in on September 9, a special group gathered together for a special grand opening: ALEH Negev’s magnificent Hydrotherapy Pool and Logistics Center.
Israel’s Minister of Welfare & Social ServicesMr. Yitzhak Herzog and his wife Tamar, Mr. Yair Turnheim of the Edmond J. Safra Foundation, Mr. Eli Elmaliach of the Rashi Foundation, Mrs. Brenda Morgenstern from Israel’s NII, and Mr. Alon Shuster, Chairman of Shaar Hanegev Council, were some of the guests who took the time to attend the event on this very hectic day.
The guests enjoyed a tour of the village’s modern Paramedical Center, where they saw community children receiving therapy treatment that will enable them to integrate fully into regular society.
They continued on to the unveiling ceremony of the adjacent Hydrotherapy Pool and the Logistics Center, which were established through the generosity and vision of Israel’s National Insurance Institute and the Rashi and Edmond J. Safra Foundations. The warm words of Minister Herzog and the foundation representatives expressed their feelings at seeing the realization of that vision. The positive warmth and dignity in which the residents live gives them the quality of life that is the “belief pact” of the village – and which was beautifully presented on a plaque to each benefactor.
The event included a beautiful choir performance by the special-needs boys of the Siach Sod Organization. Their special song, dedicated to the children of ALEH, brought tears to the eyes of everyone present.
The event closed with the heartfelt words of Major General (Res.) Doron Almog, Chairman of ALEH Negev, who expressed his mixed emotions at seeing the completion of the pool that he had dreamed of building for his son Eran z”l and his special friends.
May the hope and joy that envelops the residents of ALEH Negev every day be a merit for a sweet New Year for all those who have of themselves so generously on their behalf!
