A Mosaic of Friendship

A Mosaic of Friendship

Participants in the Ella School Bat Mitzvah program, “Ella in the Community”, chose to do their volunteer work at ALEH Moriah in Gedera, joining residents in various activities.

During their most recent visit, five Bat Mitzvah girls partnering with ALEH assisted students and National Service volunteers in a special arts and crafts project. Using damaged goods from ALEH Moriah’s workshop, the young artisans hammered on the raw material, breaking the pieces into fragments to be used to form a mosaic. The broken shards created lovely art, to be hung at the Ella School and at ALEH Moriah.

In addition to creating beautiful pieces, the volunteers from Ella School formed a new understanding of people with disabilities. The integrative experience, a first for most of the girls, left a strong impression. “It was fun. In the beginning I was taken aback, but she’s really so cute.” “In this, she’s just like me.”

A huge thank you to everyone who made this activity possible:
ALEH for allowing the meeting and supplying the raw material; the wonderful National Service girls who were on hand to assist; Netta, Inbal’s mother, who took part in the entire process; and the wonderful Bat Mitzvah girls from the Ella School in Kibbutz Kfar Menachem: Inbal, Dror P., Dror Y., Sohi and Edva.
