500 Participants in the 2019 Eran March for Disability Inclusion

Once again, school students marched for disability inclusion within Israeli society as part of ALEH’s Tikkun Olam program and in memory of Eran Almog, z”l, Doron’s son.

More than 500 people took part in Gedera’s Eran March for the 9th consecutive year, including Tikkun Olam participants from 18 high schools throughout the country alongside children and young adults with disabilities. The march, held under the slogan “Together We are One”, is part of the joint ALEH – Ministry of Education sponsored Tikkun Olam initiative to convey the message of social change regarding people with disabilities and their acceptance as equals in Israeli society.

The march was led by Israel Prize recipient Major General (res.) Doron Almog, Gedera’s Deupty Head of Council Sahar Revach, ALEH Moriah Director Naama Sudkewitz, and ALEH Board Member Shimon Rabinowitz. Other participants included regular ALEH volunteers from the police force, El Al and the IDF and ALEH students, families and staff. After the march, participants joined ALEH students and residents at ALEH Moriah in Gedera for activities, games, and more, bringing home the message of integration, inclusion and getting to know the other.

Major General (res.) Doron Almog, initiator of the Eran March in memory of his son, Eran Almog, z”l: “In the past children with intellectual developmental disabilities were hidden behind a curtain of shame. Today we come together with the children of ALEH Gedera in a march of solidarity and love of each person, because the strength of a society will forever be measured by the strength of its weakest link. As we do more to strengthen the weak, so we, too, will become better people and better society. Mutual responsibility and love for ones fellow man are not slogans, they are the spirit of the Jewish people, that spirit which brought about the creation of the State of Israel, and that is the outlook that always wins in the end.”

Gedera Deputy Head of Council Sahar Revach expressed his pride in Gedera’s part in hosting the event together with ALEH Moriah. “Thank you to all of the students for participating today and all year long. You are the future of Israel. You have been chosen to lead a revolutionary change and we are proud of your participation, your activity and your care for those who are different than yourselves.”
